Intelligent Headlight Control ensures optimal illumination of the road and makes driving in the dark safer and more comfortable. Using a video camera, the system can detect the brightness of the environment as well as oncoming vehicles or vehicles in front and determine how far away they are. This data is used to implement a variety of light functions. The High Beam Activation function enables drivers to use the high beam as often as possible without having to switch it on and off manually. It activates the high beams when it detects that no other vehicles are in the vicinity. If a vehicle is detected, however, it switches the high beam off again. The Adaptive High Beam Control function supports infinitely variable adjustment between low and high beam. The area between the vehicle in front or an oncoming vehicle is better illuminated since the headlight cone is continuously adapted to this distance. With the Continuous High Beam Control function, the driver can travel with permanent high beam headlights. If the camera detects other vehicles, the headlights are swiveled horizontally or vertically, independently of one another if necessary. This produces cones of light in which other road users are faded out. The high beam distribution is almost maintained and the visual distance for the driver increases considerably.
